Reliance Industries is planning a major investment of Rs 1 lakh crore in Andhra Pradesh to develop compressed biogas (CBG) plants across the state. Anant M Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Industries, made the announcement during the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Rayalaseema Horticulture Hub and Indian School of Agriculture (ISA) in Madanapalle.
The large investment will support clean energy, create jobs, and open new opportunities for farmers in the state.
Reliance to Invest Rs 1 Lakh Crore in CBG Plants
Speaking at the event, Anant Ambani said Reliance Industries would invest Rs 1 lakh crore in Andhra Pradesh to set up compressed biogas plants.
According to him, the project could create more than 3 lakh jobs and generate nearly Rs 60,000 crore in revenue for Andhra Pradesh over the coming decades.
Anant Ambani said the project would also give farmers a bigger role in India’s energy sector. Agricultural waste, animal dung, food waste and other forms of biomass can be used to produce CBG.
CBG is made by processing this waste into methane-rich gas. It can be used as a cleaner alternative to conventional natural gas.
He said the investment would help Andhra Pradesh move towards cleaner energy while also creating additional opportunities for farmers.
Focus on Clean Energy and Agriculture
Anant Ambani also spoke about Reliance’s other plans in the state. The company is investing in clean-energy projects in the Rayalaseema region and is also looking at opportunities in advanced manufacturing.
He highlighted the growing investment activity in Andhra Pradesh. According to state government data cited by Ambani, 388 mega projects have been approved since June 2024.
These projects have investment commitments of more than Rs 14 lakh crore and could create employment opportunities for nearly 11 lakh people.
Ambani said around one-third of these investments are expected to go towards the Rayalaseema region.
Reliance to Support Indian School of Agriculture
Reliance will also support the proposed Indian School of Agriculture (ISA) through investment, digital technology, technical knowledge and partnerships with industries.
Anant Ambani said the school would bring modern technology together with the traditional knowledge of Indian farmers.
The planned programmes will focus on areas such as:
- Artificial intelligence for agriculture
- Pest prediction
- Drone-based crop monitoring
- Precision irrigation
- Robotics
- Agricultural price intelligence
These technologies could help farmers make better decisions and improve the way crops are grown and managed.
During his speech, Anant Ambani also requested people to treat him as a son of Andhra, showing Reliance’s interest in becoming a long-term partner in the state’s development.
Rs 40,000 Crore Rayalaseema Horticulture Hub
The Rayalaseema Horticulture Hub is another major part of the development plan. The proposed project has an estimated investment of Rs 40,000 crore.
The hub aims to promote technology-based agriculture and strengthen the horticulture sector in Rayalaseema.
The project is expected to support farmers while encouraging the use of modern farming methods and technology.
Jio to Help Train Farmers
Anant Ambani also said that Jio would work with the Indian School of Agriculture to take agricultural training programmes to millions of farmers.
The training will be provided in Indian languages through virtual classrooms set up in villages.
The programme could also create opportunities for rural youth. The program may train them as digitally skilled agricultural extension workers who can help farmers understand and use new technologies.
This could make it easier for farmers in rural areas to access modern agricultural knowledge without having to travel long distances.
Anant Ambani’s Vision for Rural India
The projects announced in Andhra Pradesh aim to connect agriculture, technology, and clean energy.
The CBG plants could turn agricultural and other waste into a useful source of energy, while the horticulture hub and agricultural school will bring modern technology closer to farmers.
Anant Ambani said the initiatives are not only about building new projects. According to him, they aim to support rural businesses, stronger villages, and a more sustainable future while improving the lives of farmers.
With a proposed investment of Rs 1 lakh crore, Reliance’s CBG plans could become one of the company’s major clean-energy initiatives in Andhra Pradesh.
